I have always believed that martial arts taught in the right way, can help people not only physically if not mentally.
After more that 20 years in this world learning and eaching I decided to step forward and to start Carrera's Studio.
Amadahy starting training before she born, and was in the mats of the gym from her 1st week of live.
She started proper training at the age of 2
I started training in 1979 in Okinawan Goso Kempo under Sensei John King in Southend on Sea, graded to brown belt until an accident unrelated to training resulted in a serious ankle injury and a two year sabbatical from any impact training. Joined Sessen Ryu Karate as a spectator when my son started training but soon joined in and graded to 2nd Dan blackbelt under Sensei Albie O'connor. Helped form Hara Karate Academy with Sensei Peter Mclaughlin, re-took my 2nd Dan as the syllabus was different and graded up to 4th Dan. Other styles I trained in were Taekwondo under Sensei (sir) Gordon Slater and one year in Tang soo do in Bedfordshire while working away. After joining the police and working in Hackney I was introduced to Maria Carrera's kickboxing and started training alongside my Karate in 2012 eventually moving exclusively to kickboxing gaining my blackbelt in December 2018. Originally graduating as a Graphic designer I was a late joiner to the police in 2007.I bring to the club a broad experience of several martial arts, in Hara especially we trained with weapons - jo-bo, Bokken, Sai, Nunchuka and Tonfa with extensive self defence training including knife attacks, locks, pressure points and groundwork. As a police officer I have gained a good basic knowledge of the law, the legal use of force as used for self defence, this knowledge is passed to students. I try to demonstrate that age is not a barrier to train and respect for others is paramount. My ethos is we can't all be champions but we can be the best that we can be - no more -no less.
I started my martial Arts journey, in 1989 aged 8yrs old in shotokan karate. I was various medals up and Down the uk including at national Level.
I achieved my is 1st dan Black Belt in 1995 at the age of 14yrs. I also travelled abroad to compete and take further dan gradings in Japan reaching my current rank of 4th dan in 2012.
Around 2010/11 I took up kickboxing with zerodo in Camden Town. Where I met sensei Maria Carrera. In 2019/20 started training with sensei Maria as a Blue Belt and achieved my 1st dan in July 2023. I am privileged to be trained by a great coach and to have the opportunity to train with Wako GB team.
